Meet Elizabeth (School Owner, Roswell, Georgia): 1st Degree Black Belt

Hi, my name is Elizabeth Bowers and I was born in March of 1965 and raised in Norfolk, Virginia. I was born the youngest of four with three older brothers.  I graduated in 1987 from Davidson College in North Carolina with an Honors Degree in Psychology.  I have worked in the pharmaceutical industry for Zeneca Pharmaceuticals, where I was a territory manager and also involved in training new sales people. I have two children, Spencer age 14 and Nathan age 10.  I moved from Bermuda with my family to the Metro Atlanta area 11 years ago and live in the Roswell area.

From the age of 28, I experienced random episodes of tingling and numbness in my hands and legs.  In 2000 I was formally diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, a progressive disease of the central nervous system in which it is believed that the body’s own immune cells attack the protective coating (myelin) on the neurons.  This can lead to problems with motor function, balance, vision, sensation and cognition. This condition is currently incurable.

In September of 2005 I decided to start training in Choi Kwang Do with Jennifer Riis-Poulsen (see Jennifer's biography), a CKD Chief Instructor.  I mainly wanted to regain my self-confidence and improve my health (see my Testimonial).  I attained my 1st degree black belt in Choi Kwang Do in September 2007 and am now a Certified Chief Instructor. Many of my MS symptoms seem to be improving.  My overall strength has increased, my balance is better and my walking has improved.   Choi truly has become a passion of mine and it is a great activity for the entire family!  I am so excited to be working with Jennifer and Bo (see Bo's biography) to bring the multitude of benefits of this Martial Art to as many people as possible.
